Hi there! Welcome to this week's jobs email.

I’m feeling particularly feisty this week.

Reminder: there will be no jobs list next week as I will be observing the Thanksgiving Holiday and hanging out with my in-laws in Colorado. Hopefully I’ll be on the ski slopes one day next week, so watch out for a skittle colored snowboarder riding fast and taking chances jumping off of stuff in middle aged glory if you are at Keystone or Breckenridge (I’m not sure where I’m going yet). If you are a skilled skier or rider and you’ll be out, email me. It would be fun to have people to ride with.

Please consider signing up for a paid subscription if you are able. If you work for a university career center, subscribe now. There are individual subscriptions available as well. You can also ask your career center to sign up for a paid subscription. Odds are they have not.

Georgia resident? You know how this works! The runoff election for the U.S. Senate seat representing your state is on December 6, 2022 and it is important! Early voting in Georgia starts on November 28. If you want to see the U.S. Senate continue to support climate action, make sure you vote! You can make Joe Manchin and Kirsten Sinema much less important!

You also have access to my archives! Check out the jobs from last week here: https://edsjobslist.substack.com/archive.

What I'm reading this week:

Effective Altruism Is Bunk, Crypto Is Bad for the Planet, and Other Basic Truths of the FTX Crash (Kate Aronoff, The New Republic). This article was recommended by no less than three of the climate newsletters I read. This will probably get me some hate mail, but crypto is a scam and it will burn the planet down. Fortunately for me, I have sharp elbows and rather enjoy a fight.

What is Mastodon and what does it mean for ‘Climate Twitter’? (John McCracken, Grist). I haven’t bailed on Twitter yet, but with Trump being allowed back, I’m eyeing the delete account button.

Can Switzerland Ever Become a 2,000-Watt Society? (Jordan Teicher, The New Republic).

Demystifying electric car charging (Joann Muller, Axios). We’re signed up for an EV rental car next week in Colorado and I’m kind of excited for my first EV experience.

Environmental justice articles of the week:

New Bill Would Replace Natural Gas Appliances In Low-Income Homes (Jacob Fenston, DCist). Washington, DC is planning big things with the Inflation Reduction Act funds. But keep in mind that none of these rebates are likely to be available until late 2023. Anyone who tells you otherwise is full of it. Looking at that non-profit that wants to rewire things. Those rewiring people are going to cause more harm than good if they keep up the messaging they’ve been doing.

Ed’s featured jobs of the week:

Advisor for Regulatory Affairs - Public Service Coordinator II. Maine Governor’s Energy Office. Augusta, ME. https://mainebhr.hire.trakstar.com/jobs/fk02bqw/. 5+ years experience. $71k-$96k/year. Lots of good stuff is happening in Maine!

Energy Analyst. Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation. Nashville, TN. https://stateoftn-careers.ttcportals.com/jobs/11234132-tdec-energy-analyst-40547. 4+ years experience. $51,912- $93,444/year. Thanks Ben!

Signal Boost:

  1. Comprehensive List of Climate Tech Job Boards (that aren’t mine) from The Ad Hoc Group. I’m not so vain as to suggest my own, since I’m a bit broader than just climate tech, and I’m not a jobs board. But hey, if you want to suggest my newsletter to them, please feel free.

  2. BIPOC in ECJ is a new program that aims to advance racial diversity in the environmental movement by elevating the profiles of BIPOC leaders in the environmental and climate justice movement.  Visit their website here: https://bipocinecj.org/.

A couple of key points for the new folks (and the old hands):

  • I'm not a recruiter.

  • You can send me job tips by responding to this email. Help me help you by putting them in the format that I use. Thanks in advance!

  • I don't post unpaid internships.

  • This project is not related to my day job.

  • Did you find a job from my list? Please let me know. It gives me the warm fuzzies! But seriously, I started this to help people and knowing I succeeded makes me happy.
